HARRISBURG Responding to a new state law giving it jurisdiction over limousines in Allegheny County, the Public Utility Commission (PUC) has given limousines carriers that want to provide service within the county 60 days to file for emergency temporary operating authority.
"All limousine carriers providing service within Allegheny County must file for the emergency temporary operating rights," said Mike Hoffman, Director of the PUCs Bureau of Transportation and Safety. "Some limousine carriers currently hold PUC authority to serve all points in Pennsylvania, but not in Allegheny County. They also must file for emergency temporary authority if they want to conduct business in Allegheny County."
Carriers also must submit temporary proof of insurance with their emergency temporary applications. The PUCs $100 filing fee will be waived for all carriers seeking the emergency temporary authority.
Carriers have 60 days from April 15 to submit their applications. Once the emergency temporary application is granted, a carrier has 30 days to file for permanent operating authority and 60 days to file proof of insurance.
Application forms are available on the PUC website under Consumer Services and Publications-Reports-Forms. Forms are also available in the PUCs Pittsburgh office, located at 300 Liberty Avenue on the 12th Floor (412-565-3553).
House Bill 1402 signed into law on April 2 gave the PUC jurisdiction over limousine service in second-class counties. Allegheny County is the states only second-class county.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
