HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) Chairman Glen R. Thomas today welcomed Kim Pizzingrilli as the PUC’s fifth Commissioner. Nominated by former Gov. Tom Ridge on Oct. 3 as one of his last official acts as Governor, Pizzingrilli was unanimously confirmed today by the Senate.

"With 20 years of experience at the Department of State, the Independent Regulatory Review Commission and the Treasury Department, Kim Pizzingrilli is a proven regulator who will become an instant asset to the PUC and to our customers -- the utility ratepayers of Pennsylvania," Chairman Thomas said. "The Public Utility Commission welcomes Kim as our newest Commissioner. We look forward to working with her."

Pizzingrilli replaces Nora Mead Brownell, who resigned to become a Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner.

"As I look to the future of the PUC, I believe I can make significant contributions to build on the Commission’s many successes. I will seek ways the PUC can further consumer education and protection; reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens; and enhance enforcement efforts when necessary," Pizzingrilli said.

"I believe very strongly in the PUC’s mission of ensuring safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers -- by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.

"I pledge to be an independent voice for Pennsylvania’s consumers and will continue my commitment to public protection and responsible regulation."
