HARRISBURG
– Representatives of Pennsylvania’s natural gas distribution companies will brief the Public Utility Commission (PUC) on Wednesday, Dec. 11, about their plans for maintaining service reliability this winter.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Hearing Room 2 of the Commonwealth Keystone Building in Harrisburg. The gas companies will make one presentation addressing gas supply and demand and describing their contingency plans for the winter. Commission staff will then hold a question and answer session.

"Each winter, we hold this meeting to focus on energy reliability and the need for prudent energy planning to meet demand in the cold-weather months," PUC Chairman Glen R. Thomas said. "Long-range forecasts and planning allow the PUC and our natural gas distribution companies to work together to ensure that we have sufficient gas supplies and adequate pipeline capacity to meet the projected demand.”

The meeting is open to the public.

In May, the PUC will hold its annual summer reliability assessment meeting, which will focus on the electric industry.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
