HARRISBURG The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has approved a request by Needmore Water Supply Company to increase water rates by $2,887 (15 percent).

Under the new rates, the average annual residential bill increase will be approximately $35 from $232 to $267 based on 60,000 gallons of water used. The increase will affect 105 residential customers in the Village of Needmore, Belfast Township, Fulton County.

The increase will become effective on one day’s notice after the Commission’s order is officially entered. The company’s last rate increase was August 1990.

The company said it needed the increase to cover accumulated losses over the last 4.5 years.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
