PUC Fines Delaware County Company $1,250 for Violations

HARRISBURG The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined a Delaware County moving company $1,250 for two violations, including offering service without holding a certificate of public convenience issued by the PUC.
In December, the PUCs Bureau of Transportation and Safety instituted a complaint and recommended a fine of $1,250 for the violations against Discount Hauling and Moving Company of Glenolden, Delaware County. The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.
On Sept. 28, 2001, the company transported household goods for compensation between two points in Pennsylvania without holding a certificate of public convenience. Because Richard C. McCloskey does not have a PUC certificate of public convenience, the company was fined a penalty of $750. The company also advertised in the phone book as a moving company without holding a PUC certificate. For this violation, the company was fined $500. The PUC has ordered the company to cease and desist from further violations.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
