PUC Grants an Additional 10 Allegheny County Limousine Carrierergency Temporary Authority

HARRISBURG - The Public Utility Commission today unanimously voted to grant emergency temporary authority to 10 limousine carriers to provide service between points in Allegheny County. The emergency temporary authority was given in response to legislation passed by the General Assembly giving the PUC jurisdiction to regulate limousine carriers operating in Allegheny County, a second-class county.

Limousine carriers currently hold authority from the Commission to serve points in Pennsylvania, but not in Allegheny County. Prior to passage of the legislation, the Commission lacked jurisdiction over limousine service provided in second-class counties.

"We want to continue to maintain safe and reliable limousine service in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County," PUC Commissioner Aaron Wilson Jr. said. "We do not want service to be disrupted as limousine carriers apply for emergency temporary authority from the PUC."

On April 11, 2002, the PUC ordered carriers wanting to provide limousine service between points in Allegheny County to file an emergency temporary authority (ETA) application and provide acceptable evidence of insurance within 60 days of the date of entry of the PUC order. Following approval of an ETA application, a carrier will be required to file for permanent authority within 30 days. Last week the PUC granted 60 limousine carriers an ETA in Allegheny County, and approximately 19 more limousine carriers also are seeking ETA applications in the county.

The following carriers have been granted an ETA to provide limousine service between points in Allegheny County: A-1 Limo; A Crystal Limousine Service; City Lights LLC; First Impressions Limousine & Armed Escort Inc.; Jeunne Noire Enterprises of PA; Loni’s Antique Cares Inc.; Maybelline Limousine Inc.; Metro Limousine; Park Avenue Limousine; and Wayne’s Limousine Service.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
