PHILADELPHIA The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) and the Council for Utility Choice today announced a new brochure to help consumers prepare for higher natural gas prices this winter.

The brochure offers consumers information on how to manage the cost of natural gas this winter; how to conserve energy; where and whom to call to enroll in budget billing; and programs available for consumers with low incomes on how to get help to pay their heating bills.

“Natural gas prices are determined by nationwide factors affecting demand and supply, but we want to help Pennsylvania consumers take steps to help themselves. In doing so, we have developed a new brochure and have new information available on our Utility Choice Web site,” said PUC Commissioner Wendell F. Holland, who unveiled the brochure today, in Philadelphia, at the Be Utility Wise Fair at the Community College of Pennsylvania.

The red, white and blue “Prepare Now” brochure will be available to Community Based Organizations throughout Pennsylvania, County Assistance Offices and senior organizations, such as the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. The brochure will also be available on the Web site www.utilitychoice.org by clicking on the “Prepare Now” natural gas flame icon.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
The Council for Utility Choice is a non-profit corporation working in conjunction with the PUC. The Council is comprised of individuals from the following entities: the PUC; the Pennsylvania Rural Development Council; the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs; the Governor’s Advisory Commission on African-American Affairs; the Office of Consumer Advocate; state utility associations; public educators; and community-based organizations.
