PUC Approves Rate Decrease for Pennsylvania Suburban Water’s Paupack Division
Published on 2/20/2003
Previously, the Paupack Division customers were billed a flat rate of $206.64 per year. In July 2002, the PUC allowed Pennsylvania Suburban to bill customers in the division using a metered rate, which resulted in an approximately $153 (74.2 percent) increase to $360 for 60,000 gallons used per year.
After customers filed a protest with the Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) a settlement between customers, OCA and Pennsylvania Suburban resulted in a decrease in rates of $30,000 (10 percent). Customers will now pay a metered rate of approximately $300 per year based on 60,000 gallons used per year.
Only customers who register water use will experience the rate decrease. Approximately one-half of the Paupack Division customers are lot owners, and they will see the availability charge increase from $6.23 per quarter to $20 per quarter (221 percent).
The decrease will become effective on Feb. 22.
