HARRISBURG -The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today said the Venango Water Company, serving Venango County, could increase water rates by $3,607 for customers, which is $6,637 less than the company proposed.

If the company rejects the lower amount, its original rate request will be assigned to an administrative law judge for hearings and a recommended decision. The recommended decision then will be sent to the Commissioners to make the final decision in a public meeting.  The company had originally sought to increase rates by $10,244.

Under the alternative proposal approved by the PUC, the bill for an average residential customer using 60,000 gallons of water a year would increase approximately $12 from $340 to $352. The rate increase would become effective upon five days’ notice and would affect approximately 245 customers in Sugarcreek Borough and the Village of Reno, Venango County.
