HARRISBURG The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today canceled the certificate of public convenience for Centennial Transport Service, a paratransit company in Philadelphia , for operating while under suspension for failing to provide proof of insurance to the Commission. The company transported people on 26 occasions during the suspension, and was fined $1,000 for each violation, for a total penalty of $26,000.
On Jan. 23, 2003 , the PUCs Bureau of Transportation and Safety suspended Centennials operating authority for failing to maintain proof of insurance on file with the Commission. The suspension was lifted on February 22, when proof of insurance was filed with the PUC. During its suspension, however, Centennial documented 26 trips of transporting people for compensation.
On Aug. 12, the PUC instituted a complaint against Centennial. The company was given 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine of $26,000 would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.
The PUC fined Centennial an additional $100 for failing to comply with regulations to maintain insurance.
