HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a request from Little Washington Wastewater Company for a $31,177 (29.9 percent) rate increase for its Peddlers View Division. Little Washington Wastewater Company provides service in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County.

Under the company’s proposal, the average annual bill for residential customers using 69,000 gallons of water a year would increase approximately $150, from $502 to $652. The rate increase would affect approximately 214 residential customers.

The proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its March 7 proposed effective date, and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision or settlement. The recommended decision or settlement then will be sent to the Commissioners to make the final decision.

The company said the increase is needed to cover state and federal environmental requirements.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
