HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will continue its efforts to urge Pennsylvanians to “Prepare Now for High Winter Gas Prices” at the Be Utility Wise Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Community College of Philadelphia, Winnett Student Life Building, 2nd Floor, 17th and Spring Garden streets, Philadelphia.

PUC Commissioner Wendell F. Holland will be the keynote speaker at 9 a.m.

The Be Utility Wise Fair will provide utility education and networking opportunities to health and social service agencies that promote access, awareness and outreach to consumers in need.  To help consumers prepare for projected higher costs of natural gas this winter, the Council for Utility Choice developed a new gas brochure called Prepare Now with steps to help lower their bills. This brochure will be available at the fair.

Admission is free to everyone.  The day will include informative workshops, entertainment and door prizes.

Consumers can learn about the benefits of utility competition and about basic consumer protections.

Organizations will have information available to help low-income and special needs consumers to prepare for the winter, including information on utility energy assistance programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and conservation program (Low Income Usage Reduction Program).

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
