PA PUC Approves Rate Settlement with Clarendon Water Company in Warren County

Published on 1/13/2005

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement that will allow Clarendon Water Company in Warren County to increase water rates by $5,517 (5.75 percent). The company had originally requested a $6,746 (7 percent) increase.

Under the settlement, effective on one day’s notice, the average annual bill for a residential customer using 64,000 gallons of water will increase approximately by $16 from $277 to $293.

The rate increase will affect approximately 338 customers in Clarendon Borough and a portion of Mead Township, Warren County. The company last raised rates in 2001.

In July, the Commission voted to investigate the company’s request. On Nov. 22, PUC Administrative Law Judge Larry Gesoff recommended approving the settlement. The PUC’s Office of Trial Staff supported the settlement.

As part of the settlement, the company agreed not to file for another general rate increase for at least one year.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
