PUC Fines Allegheny County Moving Company

Published on 10/6/2005

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined an Allegheny County moving company $2,000 for two violations of offering service without holding a certificate of public convenience issued by the PUC.

From June 25 to Dec. 28, 2004, the certificate of public convenience for A-1 Moving & A-1 Limousine was suspended for failure to maintain evidence of insurance with the PUC. On two occasions during that time, the company advertised in a local newspaper, offering services despite the suspension.

In June, the PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety instituted a complaint and recommended a fine of $2,000 for the two violations against John Finnegan of A-1 Moving & A-1 Limousine, headquartered on Stanton Avenue in Millvale.  The company had 30 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
