PUC Fines Two Harrisburg Area Taxi Companies for Violations

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Keystone Cab Service Inc. of Harrisburg $1,250 and Penn Central Taxi $1,450 for various violations.
The PUC cited Keystone Cab for five violations found during inspection, including: three broken meter seals, resulting in a $750 fine; and failing to have the meters in two of its vehicles in accordance with its current tariff rates on file with the Commission, resulting in a $500 fine.
The PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed a complaint against Keystone Cab on Oct. 23, 2004. The company was given 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine of $1,250 would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.
The PUC cited Penn Central Taxi for 10 violations found during inspection, including four violations each resulting in $100 fines: a seat belt missing; a lower sway bar brushing missing; a door being inoperative from inside the vehicle; and a front tire having a steel belt exposed from inside tread depth. Other violations include: two fares not posted, resulting in a $50 fine; one meter not sealed, resulting in a $ 250 fine; and failing to have the meters in three of its vehicles in accordance with its current tariff rates on file with the Commission, resulting in a $750 fine.
