HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will celebrate National Drinking Water Week, May 2-6, in the Commonwealth Keystone Building Atrium.
Following remarks by PUC Chairman Wendell F. Holland and Commissioner Kim Pizzingrilli at a media event at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, there will be water demonstrations and a portrayal of one of this country’s founding fathers, Ben Franklin, who wrote some profound words about water.
“The fact that safe water is available instantaneously, on a 24-hour basis, causes most of us to take water service for granted,” said Chairman Holland. “We are all stewards of this irreplaceable resource and can work together to ensure high quality drinking water for future generations.”
Throughout the week, exhibits from water companies, state agencies, and organizations will be on display in the Atrium. Everyone -- school groups, scouts, state employees and the general public -- is welcome to tour the exhibits, or enjoy their lunch in the Atrium while learning about water.
From May 2-6, water companies, regulatory agencies, and water-related public interest associations will mark National Drinking Water Week, educating the public about how service is regulated to provide reliable drinking water at a reasonable price.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
