HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and review Pocono Waterworks’ request to increase water rates by $18,371 (51.5 percent).
Under the company’s proposal the annual metered bill for an average customer using 42,000 gallons of water would increase approximately $138 (51.5 percent) from $269 to $408. The increase would affect 169 customers in the Borough of Mount Pocono and Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, as well as the Village of Hamlin, Salem Township, Wayne County.
The proposed increase will be suspended for to seven months from its Sept. 1 proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision or settlement. PUC Commissioners have until the end of the seven-month period to make a final decision at a public meeting in Harrisburg.
The current rates have been in effect for over 10 years.
