PUC Approves Lower Than Requested Rate Increase for Twin Lakes Utilities

Published on 3/26/2020

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a lower than requested water rate increase for Twin Lakes Utilities Inc. (Twin Lakes), which serves approximately 100 customers in Pike County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve a Recommended Decision from the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge, which includes a substantially lower change in rates than had originally been requested by Twin Lakes.

Today’s Commission order approves an increase in revenues of $117,374 per year (87.91%).  This is approximately one-half of the revenue increase of $211,793 per year (158.63%) that was initially sought by Twin Lakes.

Per the Commission’s order, the change in residential rates for Twin Lakes customers will be scaled back proportionally so that similar changes will be applied to the company’s fixed and volumetric charges.

Additionally, Twin Lakes shall file quarterly reports on the progress of the company’s five-year capital improvement plan – with an emphasis on continuing efforts to address service, reliability and “lost water” issues with the system.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
