HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by Greater Hazleton Community-Area New Development Organization Inc. t/a CAN DO Inc. (CAN DO) for services provided to approximately 119 commercial and industrial water customers in Luzerne and Carbon counties.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate CAN DO’s proposal to increase annual water revenue by approximately $999,900 (43.1%).  Under the rate increase request, CAN DO’s water customers would see an increase of approximately 43.1% in their total water bills.

Based on today’s action by the Commission, the rate increase request is now suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for investigation and a recommended decision.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

A final PUC decision on CAN DO’s rate increase request is due by Aug. 2, 2024.
