Proposed Increase of Nearly 46% in Wastewater System Revenues to be Suspended Until August 2024 for Detailed Analysis and Review
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today suspended a rate increase requested by the Nantmeal Warwick Sewer Company Inc., to allow for a detailed investigation and analysis.
The Commission voted 5-0 to suspend the proposed rate increase, which would increase the company’s total annual operating revenues for wastewater services by 45.8%, or just over $20,000 per year.
Nantmeal Warwick Sewer Company serves approximately 50 homes and businesses in portions of Elverson Borough, West Nantmeal Township, East Nantmeal Township and Warwick Township, located in Chester County.
Today’s action by the Commission suspends the rate change request for up to seven months and the case will now be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for an investigation, the scheduling of hearings and the issuance of a recommended decision.
A final decision by the PUC on the rate increase request is due by August 1, 2024.
More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website.
Rate Increase Request
Under the proposal filed with the PUC by the Nantmeal Warwick Sewer Company, the typical sewer bill for a residential customer using 11,300 gallons per quarter would increase from $148.80 to $230.30 per quarter (54.8%). The typical sewer bill for a non-residential customer using 91,200 gallons per quarter would increase from $628.20 to $1,109.20 per quarter (76.6%).
