October 16th Nationwide Day of Education and Advocacy Raises Awareness About the Value of Water
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) is recognizing the 11th annual “Imagine a Day Without Water,” joining elected officials, water utilities, community leaders, educators, and businesses from across the country on Thursday, Oct. 16, for a day of education and advocacy about the value of water.
“This day reminds us that water is the single most essential resource connecting our health, economy, environment and daily lives,” said Ralph V. Yanora, PUC Commissioner and Co-Vice Chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Committee on Water, in his remarks during the PUC’s Oct. 9 Public Meeting. “The PUC is committed to working with our partners to advance greater investment in water infrastructure to ensure a healthy water future for all.”
Led by the Value of Water Campaign, the PUC is raising awareness about the role of water in our lives and the importance of continued investment in infrastructure. Much of our nation’s water infrastructure is more than 100 years old, and the impact of aging water infrastructure is evident in communities where it is not repaired.
“Imagine a Day Without Water” unites individuals, communities, and policymakers to advance greater investment in water. This observance serves as a reminder that every home, business, and community depends on reliable water systems – and that safeguarding those systems requires all of us.
Everyone is encouraged to raise their voice in support of the awareness, action, and investment needed to ensure a healthy water future for all.
