HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today recognized May 4 through May 10 as “Drinking Water Week” in the Commonwealth as part of an ongoing effort to increase awareness about the importance of safe drinking water.

“This week is a unique opportunity to recognize the vital role water plays in everyday life for both water professionals and the communities they serve,” said Ralph V. Yanora, PUC Commissioner and Co-Vice Chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Committee on Water. “One way to ensure quality is investing in infrastructure today to safeguard our water resources, protect public health, and strengthen our communities against future challenges.”

As stated in a Drinking Water Week proclamation signed by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, “the work of trained, certified operators at the Commonwealth’s nearly 7,900 public water supply systems are vital to providing us with safe drinking water.” And, “the Public Utility Commission continues to work in concert with the water industry to protect surface and ground water sources of drinking water to ensure safe delivery to the people of the Commonwealth.”
