PUC Grants 60 Allegheny County Limousine Carriers Emergency Temporary Authority

HARRISBURG - The Public Utility Commission yesterday voted to grant emergency temporary authority to 60 currently certificated limousine carriers to provide service between points in Allegheny County. The emergency temporary authority was given in response to legislation passed by the General Assembly giving the PUC jurisdiction to regulate limousine carriers operating in Allegheny County, a second-class county.

Limousine carriers currently hold authority from the Commission to serve points in Pennsylvania, but not in Allegheny County. Prior to passage of the legislation, the Commission lacked jurisdiction over limousine service provided in second-class counties.

"Pittsburgh is Pennsylvania’s second largest city and we want to maintain safe and reliable limousine service in Allegheny County," PUC Commissioner Aaron Wilson Jr. said. "By providing emergency temporary authority to 60 limousine carriers in the county, service will not be disrupted as limousine carriers apply for PUC authority to provide service."

On April 11, 2002, the PUC ordered carriers wanting to provide limousine service between points in Allegheny County to file an emergency temporary authority (ETA) application and provide acceptable evidence of insurance within 60 days of the date of entry of the PUC order. Following approval of an ETA application, a carrier will be required to file for permanent authority within 30 days. An additional 29 limousine carriers also are seeking ETA applications in Allegheny County.

The following carriers have been granted an ETA and can provide limousine service between points in Allegheny County: Absolute Limousine Service Inc.; Airport Limousine Service Inc.; Allegheny Coach Inc.; Allegheny Limousines Inc.; Allegheny Metro Limousine Service Inc.; Alpha & Omega Transportation Inc.; Angel Limousine Service Inc.; Gary L.
