PUC Announces Public Input Hearing in Early June for PECO Energy Company Default Service Plan

Published on 5/22/2020

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today announced a videoconference hearing in early June to gather public input on the proposed default service plan (DSP) submitted by PECO Energy Company (PECO).

The PECO Default Service Plan

Pennsylvania consumers who are served by a PUC-regulated utility, like PECO, receive “default service” from their utility if they do not use a competitive electric generation supplier. The cost per kilowatt hour (kWh) for the electric energy provided to those consumers by the utility is set periodically, based on a PUC-approved procurement plan – also known as the DSP.

PECO’s latest DSP proposal would cover the period from June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2025 – following the expiration of their current DSP.  PECO provides electric services to approximately 1.6 million customers within Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia and York counties.

PECO DSP Public Input Hearing

A videoconference public input hearing for the PECO DSP is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2020, starting at 10 a.m.

PUC Administrative Law Judge Eranda Vero will be presiding.

Offering Testimony at a Public Input Hearing

The PUC offers tips on how to participate in a public input hearing:

  • Prepare what you are going to say beforehand. Even though it is not required, you may want to write out your statement, which can be read.
  • Any formal testimony that is offered during the hearing will become part of the record on which the PUC will issue its final decision.
  • Understand that parties in the case may want to ask you a question to clarify something you said.
