PUC Approves Settlement for Pike County Light & Power’s Natural Gas Rate Increase Request

Published on 6/23/2021

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has approved a joint settlement for a smaller than requested rate increase for natural gas distribution service provided by Pike County Light & Power Co. (PCL&P).

The Commission on June 17, 2021, voted 4-0 to approve the settlement and Recommended Decision issued by PUC Administrative Law Judge Mary D. Long.  That settlement provides for a $225,000 (11.6%) increase in annual operating revenues for natural gas distribution, compared to the $262,000 (16%) increase originally requested by PCL&P.

Under the settlement approved today, the average monthly bill for a residential customer using 80 CCF of natural gas will increase from $109.93 to $124.85 (13.6%).  The original request filed by PCL&P would have increased that same monthly bill to $128.37 (16.8%).

The joint settlement was submitted by PCL&P, the PUC’s independent Bureau of Investigation & Enforcement, the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate, and the Pennsylvania Office of Small Business Advocate.

PCL&P provides natural gas service to approximately 1,200 residential and commercial customers in Pike County.
