HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) voted today to investigate the proposed natural gas service rate increase filed by PECO Energy Company. The rate changes proposed by PECO would increase annual revenues by $82.1 million (9.1%).
The Commission voted 3-0 today to suspend and investigate PECO’s rate increase request, which was filed with the PUC on March 31, 2022.
PECO provides natural gas distribution service to approximately 543,000 customers in southeastern Pennsylvania (located outside the City of Philadelphia). Under the rate increase proposed by PECO, the total average monthly bill of a residential customer using 80 Ccf of natural gas per month would increase from $95.31 to $107.70 (13%).
Today’s action by the Commission suspends the rate increase request for up to seven months and the case will now be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for an investigation and recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
A final decision by the Commission on this rate increase request is due by Dec. 30, 2022.
