HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate rate increase requests by Pennsylvania-American Water Company (PAWC) and PAWC’s Wastewater Division (PAWC-WD).

The Commission voted 3-0 to investigate PAWC’s requests for rate increases in its water and wastewater rates – which were filed with the Commission on April 29, 2022, and, collectively, would increase the Company’s total annual operating revenues by approximately $173.2 million (20.8%).

PAWC proposes an increase in the company's total annual operating revenues for water service by approximately $154.4 million (21.6%). For its wastewater division, PAWC proposes an increase in the company's total annual operating revenues for wastewater service by approximately $18.7 million (16.1%).

The requests are suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision.  Final decisions by the Commission are due by Jan. 28, 2023.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website.

PAWC and PAWC-WD presently provides water and/or wastewater services to approximately 2.3 million people in 37 counties across Pennsylvania.
