PUC Approves Lower Than Requested Rate Increase for Jefferson Estates Sewage Treatment Plant Inc. in Fayette County

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a smaller than requested change in rates for Jefferson Estates Sewage Treatment Plant Inc. (Jefferson Estates) for wastewater services in parts of Fayette County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to authorize an annual revenue increase of operating revenues of $9,583 – nearly 27% less than originally requested by the company. Based on today’s action, Jefferson Estates’ customers will see an increase in the monthly flat rate from $34 to $42.15 (24%) – the company’s first such increase since 2002.

In its initial proposal, filed with the Commission on May 30, 2024, Jefferson Estates had requested an increase in annual revenues of $13,104 (29.4%) – proposing an increase in the customer flat fee from $34 to $44 (29.4%) per month.

The Commission’s order directs Jefferson Estates to file a tariff or tariff supplement by Aug. 30, 2024, containing the proposed change in the monthly flat fee and the lower annual revenue increase approved today by the Commission.

Jefferson Estates provides wastewater service to approximately 98 residential customers in portions of Jefferson and Washington townships, Fayette County.
