PUC to Investigate PPL’s $356 Million Rate Increase Request for Electric Distribution Services

Published on 10/23/2025

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by PPL Electric Utilities Corporation (PPL).  PPL provides services to nearly 1.5 million customers in 29 counties in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate PPL’s proposed rate increase, which was filed on Sept. 30, 2025, and seeks an annual increase in revenues of $356.3 million (33.4%).  As proposed, the total monthly bill for a residential customer using 918 kWh per month would increase from $177.01 to $189.40 (7%).

Based on today’s action by the Commission, the rate increase request is now suspended for up to seven months from the proposed effective date of Dec. 1, 2025, and will be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge (OALJ) for investigation and recommended decisions.

The OALJ’s investigation will include public input hearings to gather testimony from concerned consumers and interested stakeholders.  Dates, times and locations for those hearings will be detailed in future PUC press releases.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

A final PUC decision on PPL’s rate increase request is due by July 1, 2026.
