PUC Renews Commitment to Ensuring Safe and Reliable Service During National Water Quality Month

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today highlighted August as National Water Quality Month.

“National Water Quality Month reminds us that it takes much more than just turning on the tap to guarantee clean water,” said Commissioner Ralph V. Yanora in his remarks at the PUC’s August 6 Public Meeting. “As the Co-Vice Chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Committee on Water, we are ensuring that public water systems have the tools, resources and regulatory clarity needed to address ‘forever chemicals,' lead/copper, and Legionella, among other emerging threats.”

The PUC acknowledges the vital role of regulated water and wastewater utilities in providing safe, affordable water and wastewater services across the state. In honor of National Water Quality Month, the Commission reaffirms its dedication to protecting and improving water resources through ongoing initiatives and community partnerships.

The PUC works with customers, regulated water utilities, and its sister state agencies to realize the public health goals of the Clean Water Act, the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 and the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Act of 1984.
