PUC launches formal review of the company’s proposal to adjust wastewater service rates which have been in effect for nearly 40 years
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) voted today to investigate a rate increase for wastewater service proposed by Montgomery Sewer Co. Inc. (Montgomery), which provides wastewater services to more than 400 residential and commercial customers in portions of Montgomery Township, Montgomery County.
The Commission voted 5-0 to suspend and investigate the proposal, which will now be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for evidentiary hearings and the issuance of a recommended decision. A final PUC decision on the proposed rate increase is due by Feb. 1, 2027.
Montgomery’s proposed changes would produce an overall annual revenue increase of approximately $84,600 (51.1%) for wastewater service – with the flat rate on the average annual residential bill going from $400 to $700. Montgomery’s current base rates have been in effect since Oct. 2, 1988.
More information about the PUC ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
