PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Proposed by Reynolds Water Company and Reynolds Disposal Company for Water and Wastewater Services

Small Greensburg-based water and wastewater utilities serve residents and businesses in parts of Mercer County

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted 5-0 to suspend and investigate rate increases proposed by the Reynolds Water Company (Reynolds Water) and Reynolds Disposal Company (Reynolds Disposal), for water and wastewater services provided to residents and businesses in portions of Pymatuning, Delaware, and Hempfield Townships, in Mercer County.

Water Rate Filing

Reynolds Water is seeking an increase in total annual operating revenues for water service by approximately $359,994, or 54.4%.

If the company's entire request is approved, the total monthly bill for a residential water customer with a 5/8-inch meter connection using 4,400 gallons would increase from $53.82 to $83.24 per month, or by 54.7%.

The utility provides water service to approximately 750 residential, commercial, industrial and public water customers and current base rates for water rates have been in effect since 2018.

Wastewater Rate Filing

Reynolds Disposal is seeking an increase in total annual operating revenues for wastewater service by approximately $289,025, or 44.2%.

If the company's entire request is approved, the total monthly bill for a residential wastewater customer using 4,400 gallons would increase from $57.49 to $84.34 per month, or by 46.7%.

The utility provides wastewater services to approximately 970 residential, commercial and industrial customers and current base rates for wastewater services have been in effect since 2021.

PUC Rate Investigation

The Commission's suspension of the proposed rate changes provides time for the PUC's Office of Administrative Law Judge to conduct a full investigation into the lawfulness, justness, and reasonableness of the proposed rates, as well as Reynolds Water and Reynolds Disposal’s existing rates, rules, and regulations, and issuance of a recommended decision.

Customers are encouraged to follow the case and learn more about how to participate in the ratemaking process through resources available on the PUC’s website.

A final PUC decision for both rate requests is due by April 29, 2027.
