Call Before You Dig - 811

Homeowners and contractors must call 8-1-1 at least three business days before starting any digging or excavation project, as required by law.

PA One Call is a non-profit corporation created to prevent damage to underground facilities and promote safety by providing a communications network among project owners, designers, excavators, and facility owners.  At least three business days before starting any excavation project, you must contact PA One Call by calling 811 or submitting a request online.  PA One Call then alerts facility owners of the intent to dig so they can mark their buried lines.  Once the underground lines are clearly marked, digging can begin safely by staying clear of the marked areas. 

Calling 811 Keeps You Safe

Underground power lines, communication cables, gas lines, water lines or other utilities may lie below the surface of your property or areas of planned excavation.  Calling 811 at least three business days before digging helps keep you safe by preventing accidental damage to these underground utility lines. Be sure to allow time for utility companies to visit the area to mark the location of their underground facilities.  These markings give a clear guide of what to avoid when excavating, reducing the risk of injury, service outages and damage.
